In this special exhibition, footprints of Sakai Yazo, his travel journey materials such as diaries, maps of the Awa roads, historical folk materials on pilgrimage roads and "A poet of Oi" by Basho Matsuo. Moreover, Eiji Okubo's art work theming footprints of Sakai Yazo and the Awa roads today, will be showcased.

Hands-on workshop with Eiji Okubo to stand "stones" : horizontally, vertically, boundary and prayer"
Eiji Okubo 1944–
A "walking" contemporary artist, with a huge interest in Kukai, Mokujiki-shonin and Basho Matsuo, has been creating his works by walking through their footprints. Mr. Okubo said, "It makes me feel honored that such as Yazo who has the same passion was here before".
Yazo Sakai 1808-1892
Born in Handa, Tokushima (current: Handa Tsurugi-cho) in the late Edo period, admired Basho Matsuo, left a lot of travel diaries.
